Some wedding days feel like stepping into a story that has been unfolding for years. That was what Katherine and Brandon’s Walnut Grove wedding was like for me!
The day was beautiful, intimate and so much fun. Nothing felt rushed or hectic. It was simply a group of people gathering around two people they deeply love, and that energy carried through the whole wedding day.
If you’re exploring Ventura County wedding venues, Walnut Grove is one that consistently creates an open and warm atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that makes it easy to host a gorgeous wedding, just like Katherine and Brandon’s.

The morning began at Katherine’s childhood home surrounded by bridesmaids, music, and the quiet buzz that fills a house on a wedding morning. Friends and family mingled and moved from room to room, helping each other get ready, laughing, and soaking in the moment. You could feel the love for her just walking through the rooms of the house.
When I arrived to meet Brandon and the guys, the energy matched to a tee. Everyone was excited, of course, but it was genuinely the calmest wedding morning I’ve ever experienced. Brandon epitomized that. He wasn’t pacing or nervous, he was simply ready. Ready to see her.

Walnut Grove has a lot of beautiful spots for first looks and portraits. The property has tree-lined areas, open lawns, and quiet pockets that feel separate from the main flow of guests, which makes it easy to find a spot that feels private. Perfect for a first look or quiet moment together.
Katherine and Brandon chose one of the tucked-away areas surrounded by greenery. When Brandon turned around, the reaction was so real and beautiful. Laughter, a long hug, and a clear moment of excited relief that it’s really, finally, happening. They held onto each other like they’d been waiting all day, and so much longer, for that exact moment. These are moments that I really cherish being able to be a part of as a Ventura County wedding photographer.
I love first looks at Walnut Grove because the property allows for couples to take a few minutes together without an audience. It’s one of the easiest ways to settle nerves and create space for portraits before guests arrive, and it’s one of the venue’s best features to help a wedding day run smoothly!

Walnut Grove’s ceremony space sits within a beautiful backdrop of trees and greenery, which means couples don’t need to overdo décor for the setting to feel full. The space already carries a relaxed, outdoor atmosphere that fits the venue perfectly.
When Katherine and Brandon began reading their vows, the emotion spread quickly through the crowd. It was so tender and sweet and I’ll never forget how much love was present there. It was undeniable how much everyone cares for this couple.
A timeline tip: for couples planning a Walnut Grove wedding, ceremony timing is something worth thinking about. Outdoor venues require thought and planning when it comes to the best light. The late afternoon light here is perfect because the sun softens through the trees to give it an almost magical glow.

After the ceremony, the mood shifted into celebration.
Walnut Grove works beautifully for receptions because the layout keeps things connected. The dining area, dance floor, and gathering spaces flow together instead of feeling separated, which helps the energy build throughout the night.
The entire evening felt easy and joyful. It was exactly the kind of celebration to fit Katherine and Brandon, and exactly the type of wedding the venue is known for hosting. I was so glad to stay and capture all the fun of the reception, and experience the couple enjoying the night with their people!

By the time the sparkler exit arrived, the entire group was fully in celebration mode. Guests lined up along the walkway, sparklers lit, and the path opened for Katherine and Brandon to run through.
The sparkler exit was one of my favorite moments of the day, and favorite exits I’ve ever witnessed! They went in for a dip kiss halfway down the line and immediately lost their balance. Both of them fell, and instead of panic or embarrassment, they just started laughing. Completely unbothered, completely themselves. Honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect and the photos are so much fun!

For couples searching Ventura County wedding venues, Walnut Grove is one of my absolute favorites for a reason. The property has so many gorgeous spots for portraits, including quiet spots for first looks. The ceremony space is lush, green and absolutely beautiful in the late afternoon. Receptions in the open layout keeps guests close, and adds to the easy flow of the evening.
